The Pebble

The Pebble CoverThis colorful, whimsical, rhyming religious picture book tells the story of David and Goliath from the stone’s point of view. The pebble is lowly and meek, mocked by nearby stones and boulders because it dreams of flying. As part of God’s creation, the pebble trusts that it has value, meaning and purpose. Suddenly, a hand reaches down, picks up the pebble, and propels it into history. Parents and children will love the rhyming narrative and the attractive, simple images. The book includes recommended Bible references and questions encouraging conversation about the value and purpose of all of us, as the beloved of God.

Reviews:

The Pebble, is author Patrick Dorns well-crafted, elegantly distilled version of the David and Goliath story. Told with warmth and simplicity from the unique perspective of the pebble, the result is a childrens version of this familiar tale short enough to hold the attention of any age group without losing any of the important facts or plot points. The heart-warming illustrations add to the appeal of what would certainly be an enjoyable reading opportunity to share with your child. I recommend this book to parents of young children. Expect it to become one of your childs favorite bedtime story choices!

What a delightful book! I read this to my two grandsons and they were very attentive. Both boys (ages 3 and 6) enjoyed the rhyming words, adding some of their own. The younger boy tried to mimic the faces of the rocks, which was quite hilarious! The older grandson and I had a ‘long’ (for a six-year-old boy) discussion about teasing. But then he said, “The rock had his dream come true – he got to fly and help David.” A keeper book! The three of us highly recommend it!
